Men's bags now popular in the UK by David Gledhill

A former newspaper editor is claiming that Britain is now a nation of man bag carriers.
Men have been carrying bags of all shapes and sizes on the continent and in the East for years, but they have remained the butt of comedian's jokes in the UK
But times are changing and as men buy more gadgets they are running out of space in their pockets.
As more gadgets are invented and put into every day use then people, men in particular need something to carry them in.
Enter the man bag in its many forms
"There is nothing worse than a well tailored suit being bulked out with bulging pockets," said David Gledhill the man behind Blokesbags.
It was during his 11 years as editor of The Bath Chronicle in the beautiful city of Bath in the UK that David began to realise pockets were no longer enough.
"I realised a few years ago that I either went out with all my toys - ipod, mobile phone and portable keyboard or left them at home.
"My pockets were already full of the usual paraphernalia such as wallet, glasses, sun glasses, pens and notebook and there was no space for anything else.
"Unless I wanted to look like Michelin Man. On a bad day.
"Let's face it there should only be one bulge in your suit."
As a result he has brought together a range of bags for men from handy bags, through Messenger Bags, courier bags, shoulder bags, laptop bags, briefcases and weekend bags.
Manufacturers are now changing designs to accommodate the changing needs of the burgeoning market. There are now pockets designed specifically for gadgets and all are easily accessible be it a drop pocket for an ipod with a hole for the headphones or a retractable key ring.
David believes that despite the relative newness of the market designs in the field of man bags are more advanced than the designers of women's handbags.
"It is interesting to note that because men's bags designers have come at it with a clean slate, it is them that are changing how we carry things around.
"The term handbag may have been invented for men carrying holdalls in the 19th century, but for years the terms was maligned when it was associated with men.
"That is the case no longer. Men are carrying bags with pride and taking a great deal of care when selecting the bag for them.
"They may shy away from the handbag worn on the wrist, but there is not such shyness when it comes to a messenger bag or shoulder bag.
"Obviously briefcases have been around for years, but now they have been developed to carry gadgets including in particular laptops and they now often come with shoulder straps as well as carrying handles."
"What people don't realise," added David "Is that if a man is carrying a bag, then it is by default a man bag. It really is time to get over the ridiculous prejudice that the word can in some quarters attract.
"They are an every day necessity and that is all there is to it."
