It's just a word. But like sticks and stones... one Colorado high school
student says... the word hurts.

Now 15-year-old Connor Kelly is out -- to -- "spread the word, to end the
word."

KUSA-TV and Connor explain 'the word'.

**"(Reporter)What's in a name.**

**(Kelly) Big nasty R word.**

**(Reporter) Just ask Connor Kelly..You'll never have to ask again.**

**(Connor) Retard or retarded."**

So what is Connor doing? He set up a petition drive. The Denver Post notes, it
got results.

**"Connor went to nearly every middle school in the Poudre School District
this month to ask students to pledge not to use the word. Sophomore Kennan
O'Reilly, Connor's friend, did the same at Fossil Ridge. In fact, a solid
majority of the 2,000 students at Fossil Ridge signed off on a banner that
asked participants to 'spread the word to end the word.'"**

And the "spread the word" campaign is not limited to Colorado.

There's a national website -- dedicated to changing the r-word -- from
negative to a positive one -- respect. 292-thousand people have signed on.
