How does a gringo fair living in Puerto Rico?

If you are going to retire there or have income coming in someway then you will do well. If you need to get a job, that is the hard part. There aren't many jobs & even college educated billingual locals have a hard time finding a job. If you do get one you will also be paid less than in the US. However if you live in a small town outside of San Juan, then the cost of living is cheaper than the US also. San Juan is a big city & the prices are close to that of any big city. The central area of the island is the cheapest, like Utuado & Orocovis, but this is also the most rural. If you speak spanish as well as english, you might be able to get a job in tourism. At a hotel, restaraunt, airport, tourist site, etc, but it will be about $6/hr. Otherwise, the pharmacuetical companies are all located in PR. Or you can always find a company in your current area that has a PR location & get a job there & try to get transferred. Puerto Rico is a beautiful island, just short of opportunities. Goodluck!
