Do the bigger hotels / tourist information centers / train stations happen to have courtesy 110 voltage US outlets or do I have to lug a voltage converter to Europe?

We're trying to pack light.

Here in Italy, some hotels here have a 110 volt outlet, but most don't. Some hotels I've been in don't even have a spare outlet. I've had to unplug a lamp to plug in the camera charger, but that's rare too.

For charging your camcorder, you probably don't need a voltage adapter though - just a plug adapter should do. Check the label on the charger. If it says something like 100-240V 50/60 Hz, then you're good to go. I don't need voltage converters for any of my laptops or camera here in Europe. The plug adapters are small and lightweight. I've got a couple US/Europe and Europe/US adapters permanantly packed in my carry-on pocket since I have electronics purchased in both US and Europe.

Easy to borrow - maybe not. I certainly wouldn't have a problem with someone asking me and have, in fact, given someone a charger I had that was compatible with their camera because I have several cameras that use the same charger and didn't need them all. It can't hurt to ask, but don't count on it all the time. You could also ask at the hotel desk - most won't have something like this for loan, but it is possible.
