What is a decent amount to expect? or ask for?

a solar technology company wants me to design for them; purses, baby bags, clutches and other things including camping supplies, laptop carriers, cell phone cases, work bags etc. This company has enough money to consider hiring kim kardashian as the spokes model and she wants $500,000 per. What is a good annual pay to expect or require? i was thinking at least 60k after the new womens line launches, i mean, i will be their head designer. is that reasonable? they have already signed contracts with ed hardy and costco, with other items. they said id be on salary + commission.

You can charge whatever you wish and they can hire whichever designer they think will provide value.

I suggest that you do not charge based upon their ability to pay but rather on what your time is worth, not in your opinion but in fact based on past performance.

So, figure out what you made last year, figure out how many hours you actually worked, and divide. Round up and you have your hourly wage. I suggest that if the number is less than $100/hour you let them make an offer before you open your mouth. If they offer more say thanks, if they offer less you can tell them what your minimum number is. Remember that they can and will say no if you ask for more than they want to pay, and that if they offer first their number may be higher than what you expected.
