How do I politely tell my mom to back off?

It's a hard situation because my daughter and I live with my mom due to financial reasons. So that kind of puts a strain on things. Anyways, I'm a single mom, I'm 26, and I need my mom to back off. She made a list of "rules" for living at her house...yeah...RULES. Some of the rules included that I can't bring any music into the house that is not Christian music and that if I live here I HAVE to be involved in a church. I'm a tattoo-toting, cigarette smoking, agnostic girl. I'm a great mom, I am a wonderful friend, I care deeply about people and animals and believe in treating everything/everyone with respect. I don't do drugs, I'm not a skank, I don't do anything illegal. How do I tell my mom that she needs to drop the rules? I'm 26. I know i'm not perfect but I'm not stupid either.

Well, first, it's her house and she's well within her right to make rules for staying there, even if they are inane.

Sounds like you're going to have to sit down with her and a have a long chat about the fact that you're not Christian and she needs to respect that fact.
