Testing sending and receiving of trackbacks on WordPress 2.0

Some people have reported in the forums that they’ve had problems with trackbacks using WordPress 2.0.

I’m going to try some out for myself, and see if I experience any problems. I’m going to send a trackback to my blog on how to blog (which normally doesn’t allow trackbacks due to all the crazy spam that comes through typepad - wish I’d used my own domain name when I started that blog so I could move it to wordpress w/o losing pagerank - but I digress). I’m also going to send a trackback ping from that blog to this blog, so we shall see shortly if it works. I’ll report back..

Hmmm…So I sent a trackback ping to the article on Reasons Why Not to Upgrade to WordPress 2.0 from 1.52, and as of now it isn’t showing up…scratch that - my bad, I have comments and trackbacks moderated, so it took a little bit for typepad to email me and ask for approval of the trackback. Once I clicked that, the trackback showed up fine
On the flip side, as you can see, I was also able to properly receive a trackback sent to this blog from my typepad blog.

So I’m not sure what problems other people are experiencing with trackbacks or permalinks, because so far on my end they’re working…(yay!)

OK, unfortunately, I have discovered problems with both sending and receiving trackbacks (although no probs yet with permalinks, unless they’re related to the problem with trackbacks..)

First, see my article about Testing sending of automatic trackback pings

Secondly, I tried sending both an auto-ping to one article referenced in a post as well as simultaneously sending a trackback to another (not referenced) post from wordpress 1.5.2 to this blog, powered by wordpress 2.0. Sadly, not only was the trackback to the unreferenced article never received, but TWO pings were sent to the article that was referenced (and it was only referenced once, but either way it shouldn’t have gotten two pings). So it appears there are some problems with simultaneously receiving pings and trackbacks?

I did try creating another post, which had no hyperlinks at all in it, and sending a trackback from that post to this article and that worked, so WordPress 2.0 can receive trackbacks that are sent from WP 1.5.x when no pingbacks are sent, otherwise it only receives the pings. That’s rather messed up..
